MASSENA Village trustees unanimously passed a resolution Tuesday to override the states 2 percent tax cap.
Mayor James F. Hidy said the way the tax cap law was written, municipalities have the option of passing a resolution that gives them permission to override the tax cap. Such a resolution must be passed each year, he said.
Following the meeting, when asked if he was planning to propose a budget that exceeded the tax cap, Mr. Hidy said at this point hes not sure.
I always expect the unexpected, he said.
Were hoping not to exceed the cap. We will do our best not to, while still providing the same services people have come to expect.
