LOWVILLE - Rosella Z. Thompson, 91, formerly of Church Street, Castorland, a resident of Lewis County Residential Health Care Facility, died early Wednesday morning, February 5, 2014. Mrs. Thompson was a resident since 2001.
Rose was born on March 24, 1922 in Belfort, the daughter of the late David and Veronica (Widrick) Zehr. She attended country school in Belfort.
She married Walter S. Thompson on May 30, 1945 at Lowville Methodist Parsonage with Rev. Frazer officiating. The couple made their home in Castorland. Rose first worked at Climax Mfg. in the printing department then went to work for Beaverite in Beaver Falls, retiring in 1984. Walt worked for Climax, Mfg., Castorland. He died in May of 2008.
She is survived by her children, a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Rodney Ward of Manlius; her son, Bryon J. Thompson of Castorland; her three grandchildren; Brandon (Melissa) Thompson, Nathan Thompson and Mitchell Ward, and a great granddaughter, Elise Rose Thompson.
Four sisters, Estella Yancey of Sarasota, FL; Grace Steria of San Diego, CA; Rachael Widrick of Lowville; Florence Lehman of New Bremen; sisters-in-law, Janet Zehr of Croghan and Geraldine (Clifford) Zehr, Castorland; two brothers, Henry A. Hank Zehr of Lowville and Sherwood and Linda Zehr of Black River.
Her brothers, Clifford D., and Gilbert J., and an infant sister, Eleanor, died previously.
Rose was a member of Beaver Valley United Methodist Church, Naumburg, the Womens Society of Christian Service, (UMC) and the Castorland American Legion Post #850, Auxiliary. A creative person, Rose was accomplished in quilting and sewing, enjoyed a pottery club making ceramics, and loved to bake and spend time in her garden.
Rosellas children wish to thank the staff of the Lewis County Residential facility, particularly the first and third floor, for the excellent care, kindness and concern for Rosie and her family during this 13 year relationship. There is a place in heaven for each of you.
We will remember our mother as a hard working woman who, with her husband, Walt, gave us a wonderful home, filled with faith, love, and family values. We are filled with joy to know she is once again safe in his arms, surrounded by Gods love.
The funeral will be held at 6:00 pm on Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at Sundquist Funeral Home with Rev. Bruce W. Chapman, retired minister officiating. Spring burial will be in Castorland Union Cemetery.
Calling hours will be on Tuesday, February 11th prior to the funeral service from 3:00 to 6:00 pm at the funeral home.
