OFA Girls rebound to rebound vs Massena

MASSENA - It was a matter of rebounding to rebound from a first half deficit for OFA which downed Massena 62-43 in their NAC Central Division Girls Basketball finale on Thursday.

“We defended and we ran our sets better in the second half but the key was rebounding. Massena has two very good players inside and we needed five players boxing out at all times defensively. We had seven girls with three rebounds or more which is what we needed” said OFA Coach Lynn Blevins after the 12-6 Lady Devils finished with a 10-4 division mark and a three-win week. “We had a successful regular ]season and we finished strong. We are looking forward to the sectionals.”

Trailing 19-13 after the first quarter and 26-25 at the half, the Lady Devils surged in a 24-10 third quarter advantage where Riley Luckie and Brooke Badlam combined for six and five points.

While the Devils took care of business in the confined quarters of the paint, Riley Luckie (3 steals) produced long range dividends netting four threes in a 23-point performance. Courtney Sherwin (6 rebounds, 4 assists) tallied nine points, Taylor Perry (5 rebounds) netted eight points and Susie Morrow added seven points.

Meg Dodge contributed six points and six assists and Brooke Badlam (5 points), Erin Tooley (4 points) and Paige Perry (1 point) rounded out the scoring.

Bailey Youngs sparked Massena with 13 first-half points and Jessica Rose, Samanntha Villnave and Mary Jaylee Jones followed with nine, seven and seven.

In the JV game Massena overcame a game-high 21 points from Jill Lincoln to secure a 45-41 win. Sidney Carroll tallied 14 points for Massena and Kierra Johnson and Kelsey Pinkerton each scored eight points for OFA.

In other NAC Central action Malone downed St. Lawrence Central 48-31 and Potsdam nipped Gouvereur 44-42 in overtime.
