College football: SU assistant coach Moore to join Bills

SYRACUSE — A day after signing five wide receivers to letters of intent, the Syracuse University football team lost its receivers coach, Rob Moore, who accepted the same position with the NFL’s Buffalo Bills.

The Bills made the announcement on Thursday. Moore, 45, will join former SU head coach Doug Marrone, who added Moore to his Orange staff before the 2010 season.

“We celebrate Rob Moore’s opportunity to coach in the National Football League with the Buffalo Bills and look forward to recruiting the next best person to help our program attack the Atlantic Coast Conference in 2014,” SU coach Scott Shafer said in a press release. As soon as we hire our new coach, we look forward to introducing him to ‘Cuse Nation.”

Moore played for SU from 1987-90 and left as the career leader in receiving yards and touchdowns. He was the first Orange receiver to gain 1,000 yards in a season.

Moore played 12 NFL seasons with the Arizona Cardinals and New York Jets and was an All-Pro in 1997.

SU defensive line coach Tim Daoust is the only assistant remaining from Marrone’s tenure that ended when he left for Buffalo in January 2013.
