Reference and adult librarian Stephanie T. Young has been appointed Ogdensburg Public Librarys acting director as the search for a replacement for former director Wayne L. Miller gets underway.
Ms. Young has worked at the library for two and a half years, and said she is ready to take on the challenges of the director position.
The library boards president Matthew P. Duprey could not be reached for comment on the directors search Friday.
While taking over the duties of director Ms. Young will receive a daily stipend of $42 in addition to her salary.
The next meeting of the board of trustees will be held on Feb. 20 and they plan on discussing personnel.
The librarys day-to-day operation is still moving along well despite the lack of a permanent director, Ms. Young said.
The staff has been really good at handling data operations, she said. We had some end of the year paperwork that had to be filed. The staff is great, they handled a lot of it already.
She said she is not worried if a new director is not found right away.
However long they need me to keep doing this, Ill keep doing it, she said.
Mr. Millers resignation was accepted at the librarys board of trustees meeting on Jan. 16.
Mr. Miller had served as the director for five years after taking the job in 2008.
His contract was not renewed when it expired in 2012 and he cited a lack of progress towards renewal as a factor in his decision to leave his post.
Mr. Millers last day was Jan. 22. He was making $65,000 when he resigned.
