Man accused of throwing hammer during domestic incident

A city man was arrested early Sunday morning at his residence after he allegedly threw a hammer at a woman during a domestic disturbance.

Walter F. Johnson III, 47, of 341 Sterling St., Apt. 4, was charged at 2:40 a.m. on the 500 block of State Street after being stopped for having a defective taillight. He was accused of throwing a Stanley claw hammer in the direction of Amanda S. Johnson at their shared residence. Police said the hammer struck Ms. Johnson in the foot, causing a minor laceration and bruising.

Mr. Johnson was charged with second-degree reckless endangerment and third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, as well as the traffic infraction.

He was transported to the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building, where he was held pending arraignment in City Court.
