Driver stuck in snow charged with DWI

Sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene of a disabled car on the shoulder of Interstate 81 in the town of Pamelia Saturday, where they allegedly discovered the driver was intoxicated.

Robert E. Kerwin III, 43, of 22086 Fitchette Road, Alexandria, was charged at 6:12 a.m. with first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, a class E felony; DWI, a misdemeanor; and imprudent speed and crossing road hazard markings, both traffic infractions.

Mr. Kerwin refused a chemical test and his blood alcohol content level was not available. Due to having his license revoked on Dec. 11 after refusing to submit to a chemical test, he was charged in the first degree.

He was taken to the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building for processing, arraigned in Pamelia Town Court and released on his own recognizance.
