Former Potsdam court clerk to be charged in Canton

POTSDAM — Former court clerk Mary Jo Guyette is expected to be arraigned at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday in Canton Town Court for allegedly misusing court funds.

The state Comptroller’s Office is nearing the end of an audit and investigation into the Potsdam Town Court, although the details have not yet been made public.

Town Supervisor Marie C. Regan said she knows little about the investigation. She has seen a preliminary version of the comptroller’s report, and although she said she could not reveal specifics until the report has been finalized, she said there appeared to be a “significant” amount of missing money.

A spokesman from the comptroller’s office said he could not comment on the matter until charges have officially been filed.

Ms. Guyette was quietly suspended with pay in June, then fired in September. Neither action was announced publicly at the time.
