The 2013-14 season ended in the first round of the Section 10 Class D playoffs for the Colton-Pierrepont and Parishville-Hopkinton girls basketball teams on Tuesday.
Morristown 53, C-P 43: In Colton, the teams battled to a 16-16 tie through the first half but the visiting Lady Green Rockets opened the second half with a 13-6 run and never looked back to advance past the Lady Colts (5-13).
We thought we would match up pretty well against Morristown but we had trouble with our rebounding against them, noted C-P coach Bill Bonno.
Taylor Piercey netted 10 of her team-high 21 points in the fourth quarter. Jessica Geddis tossed through another 17 points followed by Jordyn Tulley with nine while Sam Green, MacKenzie Barse and Meghan Vollmer each netted two.
Junior Morgan Doyle led all scorers with 28 points in the losing cause. Courtney Marsh netted another nine while Haylee Hennessy accounted for the other six.
Morristown (5-10) will now get set to face Chateaugay in the quarter-finals on Friday at SUNY Cantons Dana Hall starting at 6:45 p.m.
Edwards-Knox 47, P-H 30: In Russell, the visiting Lady Panthers (4-11) got off to a promising start when they outscored the Lady Cougars (4-11) 13-12 in the first quarter but E-K took control of the game with a 10-1 second quarter run. Kate Smith anchored the winning offense with 15 points. Jaydilynn Bullock chipped in nine followed by Makenzie Frary with eight, Arael Scott with six and Makayla Bartocha with two.
For P-H, Nicole White tallied eight points followed by Miranda Collins with six while Kodi Perkins and Kelsey Zenger each netted five. Cassara Cole contributed four and Kelsey Putnam accounted for the other two.
The Lady Cougars now face top-seeded Heuvelton in the quarter-finals on Friday at the SUNY Canton fieldhouse starting at 6:45 p.m.
The other two first round games on Tuesday saw Lisbon down St. Regis Falls 61-31and Hammond stop Harrisville 51-11.
Lisbon 61, SRF 31: In Lisbon, Jackie Sovie scored a game-high 16 points as the Lady Golden Knights (10-8) ran out to a 41-12 halftime lead before going on to reach the quarter-finals. Katie Sovie added 12 points followed by Beth Crowley with nine.
Brianah Work paced the Lady Saints (3-13) with 12 points followed by Makensy Bazdaric with seven and Madison Greenwood with six.
Lisbon now takes on second-seeded Hermon-DeKalb on Friday at SUNY Cantons Dana Hall starting at 5 p.m.
Hammond 51, Harrisville 11: In Hammond, the Lady Red Devils (12-6) ran out to a 25-5 halftime lead with the trio of Courtney Bova (12 points), Makayla Horton (11 points) and Cassie Whalen (10 points) accounting for the majority of the offense.
For Harrisville (2-13), Morgan Matott tallied five points followed by Georgie Baker with three.
Hammond, the defending Class D champion, will go up against Madrid-Waddington on Friday at the SUNY Canton fieldhouse starting at 6:45 p.m.
