MALONE — Trevor Henderson scored the game-winning goal with the assist from Jacob Scharf with 56 seconds left in double overtime, leading the Malone hockey team to a 3-2 victory over the Islanders in a Section 10 Division II first-round playoff game on Friday night.

Scharf dug the puck out of the corner and placed a pass onto the stick of Henderson, who completed the one-timer for the fourth-seeded Huskies (8-12-1).

“It’s great to get a win on your home ice. It’s even better when it’s a playoff win in a do-or-die situation,” Malone head coach Kevin St. Hilaire said. “The kids really worked hard in this one and that effort paid off – finally.”

Bailey Conklin provided a goal and an assist and Joey Brown registered 26 saves for Malone (8-12-1), which will play at top-seeded Norwood-Norfolk at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Cam Morgan scored with 1 minute, 30 seconds left in regulation to send the game to overtime for the No. 5 Islanders (4-12-2).

OFA 8, TUPPER LAKE 4

John Tayler delivered two goals and three assists to lead the third-seeded Blue Devils to a Division II first-round victory over the No. 6 Lumberjacks in their final game at the Edgar Newell Memorial Golden Dome rink.

Jared Barr scored twice and Dave Prudhomme stopped 18 shots for Ogdensburg Free Academy (10-10). OFA will play at second-seeded St. Lawrence at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Broyce Guerette provided three assists for Tupper Lake (0-19-1).

GIRLS BASKETBALL

HERMON-DEKALB 72, LISBON 33

Courtney Harrington scored 23 points and grabbed nine rebounds as the No. 3 Demons routed the No. 6 Golden Knights in the Section 10 Class D quarterfinals at OFA.

Hermon-DeKalb (16-2) advances to play either Chateaugay or Morristown in the Class D-2 title game at 7:45 p.m. Tuesday at SUNY Canton.

The Demons led 16-3 after the first quarter and 38-7 at halftime.

Hunter Hitchman added 11 points and six assists, while Paige Whitton had 10 points for Hermon-DeKalb.

Jackie Sovie paced Lisbon (10-10) with 15 points.

The three other quarterfinals scheduled for Friday will be played today at OFA.

Hammond and Madrid-Waddington open up play at 11:45 a.m., with Edwards-Knox and Heuvelton stepping on the court for a 1:15 p.m. start. Rounding out the slate at 3:30 p.m. will be Morristown and Chateaugay.

Also moved to today, with a 7 p.m. start time, is the Section 10 indoor track and field meet at St. Lawrence University.
