MASSENA – Myron H. Butch Lavigne, 66, 1825 State Highway 420, passed away on Friday, February 14, 2014 at the Fletcher Allen Medical Center, where he had been transferred to from Canton Potsdam Hospital, on February 4.
Myron was born on December 5, 1947, in Saranac Lake, son of the late Harold and Imogene Richardson Lavigne. He graduated from St. Lawrence Central, Brasher Falls, in 1967. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves in the 1960s. On November 2, 1968, he married Nancy C. Swinyer at the First United Methodist Church, Massena, NY.
Butch first worked at Alcoa, and then at the NY Power Authority, starting out as a lineman, retiring as an electrician in 1999, and he was also owner and operator of Lavignes Auto Sales. He enjoyed selling cars, repairing tractor trailers, and bailing cardboard. He also liked to go camping, boating and fishing, but no matter what, he always found enjoyment in his work. He was a member of the Amvets Post #4, and the First United Methodist Church.
Myron is survived by his wife of 45 years, Nancy; one daughter, Melissa Lavigne; and two sons, Joshua, and Adam Lavigne; four sisters, Linda Finlayson, Aletha Donaldson, Carolyn Farrell, and Terry Barnes; and two brothers, Paul and Kenneth Lavigne; and his mother-in-law, Mildred F. Swinyer.
He was predeceased by his parents.
Friends may call at the Donaldson Funeral Home on Tuesday, 2-4, where a memorial service will take place at 4:00PM, with Rev. Judy VanKennan officiating. Burial will take place at the convenience of the family at Union Cemetery, Vermontville, NY.
Memorial donations may be made in Butchs memory to the Potsdam Humane Society.
