FINE A man was jailed Sunday after he allegedly raped a 19-year-old woman while she was sleeping.
State police on Sunday charged Chad E. Kerr, 38, of 885 Oswegatchie Trail Road, with first-degree rape, a class B felony.
He is accused of forcing himself on the sleeping woman early that morning.
At approximately 4 a.m., after the alleged victim had taken an over-the-counter sleep aid, she woke to find Kerr allegedly having sex with her, state police Senior Investigator Timothy J. Peets said.
When she asked him to stop, he allegedly refused, Mr. Peets said.
The woman filed a report with troopers from Gouverneur Hospital following the alleged incident. Kerr was directed by police to come to the Gouverneur state police station for an interview, where he was taken into custody without incident after invoking his right to counsel.
Kerr was arraigned in Fowler Town Court and sent to St. Lawrence County jail, Canton, where he is being held on $10,000 cash or $20,000 bail bond.
