West Stockholm residence a ‘total loss’ following afternoon working house fire

WEST STOCKHOLM - Firefighters from West Stockholm, Brasher-Winthrop, Potsdam, and Norwood responded to a working house fire shortly after 1 p.m. on Tuesday.

The fire resulted in a total loss of the residence.

No one was in the home at 17 River Dr., West Stockholm, at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported.

“We had a working house fire when we got on scene. A neighboring firefighter driving by spotted it and called it in,” West Stockholm Fire Chief Robert E. White said.

“We had an intensive fire area on both sides of what we call the ‘B’ and ‘C’ side of the house. There are four sides of the house - A, B, C, and D. The ‘B’ and ‘C’ side had the fire on it. It is a total loss, but it is insured.”

Mr. White added that an investigation is ongoing regarding the exact cause of the fire.

“We have no idea the cause at all. We have investigators coming to take a look,” he said. “It’s a total loss. The only good thing is that everybody was out of the house. There are three kids that live here with the mother but everybody was fine.”

The owner of the property is Kevin Blanchard and the renter is Natasha Cook.
