Richville – Arthur J. MacDonald, 85, passed away Monday, February 17, 2014 at his home under the care of his family.
Calling hours are Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 pm and Thursday from 10:00 to 11:00 am with a funeral service to follow at 11:00 am at the Green Funeral Home, Gouverneur with Rev. Dr. Richard Mayforth, pastor of the Gouverneur First Presbyterian Church officiating and spring burial in Maple Grove Cemetery, Richville.
Arthur was born in Eganville, Ontario, Canada on July 26, 1928, the son of Lorne and Evelyn McIntyre MacDonald.
He attended rural school in Lake Dore, Ontario before moving to northern New York where he worked construction including employment on the St. Lawrence Seaway project.
On May 31, 1958, Arthur married Sally G. Loucks at the United Church of Richville with Rev. A.J. Coffey officiating. The couple had operated Elmdell family farm on the Colton Road since 1966, and for many years, they provided family care for several local individuals. Sally passed away August 8, 1985.
Arthur enjoyed his work on the farm, especially turning soil and mowing hay. He also enjoyed reading, watching sports on television, especially hockey, and spending time with his grandchildren and attending their youth events.
Arthur is survived by his two sons George and Sharon MacDonald, Tommy and Dawn MacDonald, all of Richville, 7 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren. He is also survived by 3 brothers Wilbert, Mervin, and Delmar MacDonald, a sister Fern McComb, all of Ontario, several nieces and nephews.
