CANTON — The Hermon-DeKalb girls basketball team used a third-quarter spurt to edge Chateaugay 41-36 in a defensive Section 10 Class D semifinal game on Tuesday at SUNY Canton.

The No. 3 Demons (16-2) will meet top-seeded Heuvelton for the title at 6:15 p.m. Friday at SUNY Canton.

Hermon-DeKalb was tied 22-22 with No. 2 Chateaugay at halftime, but outscored the Bulldogs 13-7 in the third quarter to pull away.

Hunter Hitchman scored 17 points to lead the Demons and Bridget Rust added 12. Hannah Cook paced Chateaugay (16-4) with 11 points.

HEUVELTON 44, MADRID-WADDINGTON 31

The Bulldogs (18-2) won a strange game against No. 4 Madrid-Waddington in the other class D semifinal at SUNY Canton.

Heuvelton led 25-20 at halftime but Madrid-Waddington (15-4) went on a 7-0 run to lead 27-25 heading into the fourth quarter. The Bulldogs then took over again, outscoring Madrid-Waddington 19-4 in the final eight minutes to advance to the title game.

Logan Tallman led Heuvelton with 12 points and Olivia Parmeter paced the Yellow Jackets with seven.

CANTON 71, POTSDAM 21

The top-seeded Golden Bears built a 38-5 lead by halftime, cruising by No. 5 Potsdam in a Class B semifinal in Canton.

Canton (15-4) will meet No. 2 Ogdensburg Free Academy in the title game at 8 p.m. Friday at SUNY Canton.

Tori Daley led Canton with 16 points. Emily Pinckney scored 14 and Kali Frank tossed in 13.

Breanne Sapp led the Sandstoners (3-16) with nine points.

OFA 72, SALMON RIVER 46

The No. 2 Blue Devils trailed 12-11 after the first quarter but went on a 43-21 run in the second and third quarters to pull away from No. 3 Salmon River (4-11) in a Class B semifinal in Ogdensburg.

Meg Dodge led OFA (12-6) with 28 points. Riley Luckie scored 13 points and Susie Morrow tossed in 12.

Taylor Francis paced the Shamrocks with 13 points. Kwiio King scored 12 and Jaden Mitchell added 11.
