WEST CARTHAGE Many are confused by the Affordable Care Act. To help combat some of the frustration created by the changes in health care insurance, Stephen C. Foy Inc., Watertown, is offering a free seminar.
This presentation is to help inform business owners and the general public of the changes enacted by the Affordable Care Act, said Eric Sharlow, the agencys vice president. We have helped many small businesses and individuals use the exchanges since they opened on Oct. 1.
Mr. Sharlow said some businesses that received the heath care tax credit in 2013 will not receive it this year if they do not enroll in coverage through the Small Business Health Options Program exchange in 2014.
Due to the recent delays of the law, and the attention health care is receiving on a national level, we wanted to provide general information and help answer any questions employers and individuals may have, Mr. Sharlow said.
The seminar will begin at 8 a.m. Tuesday at the municipal building, 61 High St., and should last about an hour.
At the seminar, attendees can learn more about:
n Low-cost ways for groups to avoid the penalties for not offering health insurance.
n Essential health benefits and potential compliance issues.
nHow businesses can remain eligible for the Small Business Health Care tax credit.
n Group and individual health insurance application deadlines.
n Assistance programs for those who cannot afford health insurance.
n Changes to COBRA administration procedures.
n What to do in the event of not yet receiving an ID card or a bill.
n Where to locate certified in-person assisters.
