Evans Mills woman accused of welfare fraud

Kimberly A. Barker, 42, of 28561 Route 37, Evans Mills, was arrested at 8:35 a.m. Wednesday at the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building on multiple felony charges stemming from alleged welfare fraud.

She was charged with third-degree grand larceny, first-degree offering a false instrument for filing, misuse of food stamps, all felonies, and welfare fraud, a misdemeanor.

The value of the unlawful benefits Ms. Barker allegedly received is not known. A class E felony charge of misuse of food stamps is charged when the value of the benefits is between $1,000 and $3,000.

She was taken to the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building and held pending arraignment in City Court.
