Here come the brides: the fourth annual Rediscovering Your Backyard Bridal Expo on Sunday at the Ogdensburg Bridge and Port Authority Industrial Park.

For $2, brides-to-be, family, friends and future bridegrooms will have an opportunity to meet with more than 70 of the area’s top wedding vendors who will be on hand to share their products. The event runs from 11 to 4 p.m. at 120 Commerce Park Drive.

The theme, “Rediscovering Your Backyard,” encourages brides and bridegrooms to explore great wedding offerings right here in the north country. Seminars and demonstrations will be offered throughout the day, including during a fashion show at 2:30 p.m.

Judy A. Aldrich, legislative constituent liaison and coordinator of special events for Assemblywoman Addie J. Russell, D-Theresa, said over 70 vendors from three different counties will be attending,

“We will have various skin care products, a chocolate fountain, hope chests, florists, cosmetic purses, tent rentals – a little bit of everything,” Ms. Aldrich said. “We have vendors that will help with bachelorette or bachelor parties, hair salons and home decorators.”

Between 300 to 500 attend the event each year, Ms. Aldrich said.

“We have had businesses come back and tell us how much business they got as a result, so we do know that is working,” Ms. Aldrich said. “Every year we get new ones.”

Brides-to-be will register at the door. Four of them will be chosen to participate in a cake dive for a chance to win $300 cash.

“It’s pretty nice to be able to give a bride some receive extra cash to do things with,” Ms. Aldrich said.

Proceeds from admission will benefit the Zonta Club and the Ogdensburg Boys and Girls Club. Many of the vendors will have items available to purchase.

Brides, maids of honor, bridesmaids, mothers and friends, anyone who sees a wedding in the future and those who are just curious about what services are offered locally for weddings, parties and social events are invited to attend, Zonta Club Vice President Colleen Anderson said.

“It’s a great day, whether you’re planning any event, not just weddings,” Ms. Anderson said. “We will showcase all the wonderful resources we have available in the north country at very affordable prices and even if they are not planning something right now, they can still check it out.”
