Second Massena man charged in August burglaries

MASSENA — State police on Wednesday charged Austin B. Villnave, 19, of 144 S. Raquette Road, with three counts of third-degree burglary and four counts of fourth-degree criminal mischief stemming from an Aug. 3 incident at Journeyman Self Storage, 2 Haverstock Road.

It is alleged that about 8:50 a.m. Mr. Villnave and codefendant Justin P. Love, 23, of 81 Chase St., cut the locks off four storage units, entered three of them and stole property from two.

The men allegedly stole tools, including a motorcycle jack and a welder, from a unit rented to Thomas J. Chapman and a 32-inch flat screen television from a unit rented to Stacy M. Rusaw.

They also reportedly entered a storage unit rented by Rick Fuller and moved boxes but stole no items there and allegedly broke two locks on a unit rented to Rebecca L. McDermott.

Mr. Love was arrested Feb. 11 on the same charges now facing Mr. Villnave. After arraignment in Massena Town Court he was sent to St. Lawrence County jail, Canton, on $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond.

Mr. Villnave was also arraigned in Massena Town Court and sent to the jail, where he is being held on $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond.

Both men were also among the eight people charged Wednesday in the April 14 burglary of a residence on Leary Road, Colton, where 12 guns were allegedly stolen along with various tools and jewelry. They both are being charged with third-degree burglary.

Mr. Villnave is additionally charged with third-degree criminal possession of a weapon and criminal sale of a firearm.

The charges in the Colton burglary case are felonies.
