Tailwater Lodge now open in Oswego County near Salmon River

ALTMAR — Tailwater Lodge, a 42,000-square-foot upscale hotel and convention center, opened Thursday at a former elementary school built in 1929 near the Salmon River in Oswego County.

Housed at the former Altmar Elementary School, 52 Pulaski St., the 42-room lodge was retrofitted by Woodbine Group of Syracuse, developer and owner of the property. Prices for rooms, which previously were classrooms of different shapes and sizes, start at about $180 per night.

Featuring 2,000 feet of reserved river frontage, the lodge houses a conference center geared toward weddings, retreats and corporate training events. Its restaurant offers upscale comfort food, including seafood, fine wines and gourmet sack lunches for anglers on the move.

“Upscale fishing and hunting lodges have been gaining popularity in the West,” said Thomas J. Fernandez, director of business development for the Woodbine Group. “But Tailwater is the first of its kind on the Salmon.”
