A Watertown man remains at the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building on $2,500 cash bail after city police said he punched holes in two doors in his apartment in order to physically confront a woman.

James W. Martin, 31, of 544 Cooper St., Apt. 5, was accused of punching a 4-inch hole in one door and an 8-inch hole in another about 2 p.m. Thursday. Police said Mr. Martin broke the doors to confront Tabitha R. Chouinard, same address, who was locked in a room.

When Mr. Martin confronted Ms. Chouinard, police said, he pushed her down on a bed and took a cellphone from her. He kept it for more than 12 hours, preventing her from calling for help.

He was arrested at the residence Thursday and charged with two counts of fourth-degree criminal mischief and one count of second-degree harassment. He was taken to the jail and is to appear in City Court.
