Police seek driver in State Street hit-and-run

City police are seeking information about a Friday night hit-and-run accident that left a pedestrian hospitalized.

The accident occurred at 11:48 p.m. on the 500 block of State Street. According to police, a red Jeep traveling west on State Street struck a pedestrian as the man was crossing from the south side of the street to the north side.

The collision left the man, identified only as a 48-year-old white male, in the roadway, with severe facial trauma that required him to be flown to Upstate Medical University, Syracuse.

He was listed as stable on Sunday.

Police said the driver of the Jeep fled the scene by driving west on State Street and turning right onto Mechanic Street. Police were unable to locate the vehicle.

Police describe the vehicle as a red Jeep Wrangler, four-door hardtop, with passenger side damage and a nonfunctional passenger side headlight.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call police at 782-2233.
