‘Fiddler on the Roof’ tickets selling on-line this year

MASSENA - Audience members will be able to get tickets for this year’s Massena High School spring musical production without leaving their homes.

Tickets for “Fiddler on the Roof” can be purchased on-line for the first time starting Friday at

Chris Lincoln, choral and drama director, said the move should make it easier for folks to purchase their tickets.

“It seems like it’s always been a little troublesome to come to the school and purchase tickets during the small window we sometimes have (at the box office). We understand people work and might not get done until after 5,” Mr. Lincoln said.

So they decided to make the jump into on-line ticket sales, coordinating the sales with a company out west.

“I’ve been working on it for a couple of years. I just finalized the procedure this week. It is a done deal. Our tickets will be sold on-line. Most people have kind of made the jump. Instead of going to the ticket office, they go to the website and purchase tickets. It seems like it’s very well received and people trust it and accept it,” he said.

Allowing people to purchase tickets from their home will also reduce the chances that tickets won’t be available, he added.

“There’s always the risk of selling out. We sold out two of the last three shows within a dozen or two seats,” Mr. Lincoln said.

The box office will still be open for business and using the online system to book seats. All seats will be reserved, including those made on-line.

“We will still have regular box office hours. The truth be told, they will pretty much do the same thing as somebody could do at their house. At the box office they’ll get a much fancier ticket. They can still come to our box office and get handed a ticket that is actually a ticket. If they order at their house, they’ll print it off themselves,” Mr. Lincoln said.

“Once they purchase a ticket on-line, it’s purchased. They can do it at home. If they want to come to the box office, we’ll put a ticket in their hand as they leave the box office,” he said. “Everything is on-line. If we make an order at our box office or somebody does at their house, it’s all going through the same process. That is an assurance we’ll never double sell a seat. It’s similar to Ticketmaster.”

Customers can still choose the seat they want, whether they do it on-line or at the box office.

“It’s all reserved seating, including on-line purchases. Once you log in and select a seat, it’s held for you for a number of minutes while you complete the transaction. You still get to choose the seats,” Mr. Lincoln said.

If the ticket is purchased online, the purchaser needs to print out their ticket and bring it with them to the show. It will print on a regular 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of paper.

Those who purchase their tickets at he box office have the option of paying by cash, check, credit card or debit card. On-line sales are by credit card or debit card only.

“Last year was the first year we gave the option of paying by credit card or debit card. That option is still on the table through this company,” Mr. Lincoln said.

Tickets for this year’s showing of “Fiddler on the Roof” are $11. The show will be staged March 28-29 in the Massena High School auditorium.

“We’ve done a few rock shows the last few years. It was a little bit more financially feasible to have a smaller pit,” he said.

This year, he said, “We really wanted to do something a little more classical that focuses on a story, and Fiddler has an amazing story. Coming on the cusp of the Olympics, there’s a lot of focus on Russia right now,” Mr. Lincoln said.
