The Police Benevolent Association of the New York State Troopers Inc. endorsed Jefferson County sheriff candidate Colleen M. ONeill in a statement issued by the organization Tuesday.
Ms. ONeill, who served with state police for 28 years working in roles ranging from patrolwoman to senior investigator, received the praise of the group, which called her uniquely qualified for the position.
In the letter, the group, which has more than 6,000 members statewide, said that the PBA is confident that Colleen ONeill will guide the Jefferson County Sheriffs Department in a direction that best provides law enforcement protection for residents.
Ms. ONeill, running as a Democrat, also received an endorsement from the New York State Police Investigators Association in January.
Jefferson County Undersheriff Paul W. Trudeau is also running for the position as a Democrat. John R. Bocciolatt, a Watertown native and retired Portland, Ore., city police detective sergeant, is running as a Republican.
