Orthopedic surgeon specializing in hand surgery joins CPH staff

POTSDAM - Jeffrey Haasbeek, MD, FRCSC, a board-certified orthopedic surgeon who specializes in hand surgery, has joined Canton-Potsdam Hospital’s medical staff full time.

Dr. Haasbeek was previously providing surgical services approximately once per month and will now expand his practice.

Dr. Haasbeek’s practice focuses on all aspects of upper extremity orthopedics. He provides diagnosis and treatment of trauma, nerve entrapments, arthritis, lesions and infections resulting from sports injuries or over-use, such as through computer keyboarding or in occupations or leisure activities that involve playing an instrument or using firearms.

Treatments range from physical therapy to minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery. His pediatric practice includes performing a variety of surgeries on the spine, hip, and lower extremities of children including club foot repair, lower extremity lengthening, correction of deformities, and reconstructive surgery.

Dr. Haasbeek received his medical degree from, and completed his internship and residency at, the University of Manitoba, Faculty of Medicine, Winnipeg, and completed a fellowship in pediatric orthopedics at Vanderbilt University, Nashville, Tenn., followed by a fellowship at the Hospital for Sick Children of the University of Toronto.

He completed a fellowship in adult hand and wrist orthopedics at the University of Calgary, Alberta. He has held hospital appointments in North Dakota and Minnesota, and completed international outreach missions in Bangalore, India, Quito, Equador, and Ambato, Equador.

A Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada, Dr. Haasbeek is also a member of the American Academy of Cerebral Palsy and Developmental Medicine, the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, and the American Academy of Pediatrics. He has acted as preceptor for medical students and has held academic appointments at the University of Ottawa and University of North Dakota. He is the author or co-author on numerous peer-reviewed publications.

Initially, Dr. Haasbeek will join St. Lawrence Orthopedics and Sports Medicine specialists Marco Berard, MD, Richard Finch, PA, Kristin Miller, NP, and John Savage, MD, located on the Helen Snell Cheel Medical Campus at 49 Lawrence Avenue, Potsdam.

It is anticipated that Dr. Haasbeek will practice in Canton once space is renovated for him at the E. J. Noble Professional Building.
