CANTON St. Lawrence University has hired a new treasurer and vice president for finance to replace Kathryn L. Mullaney, who is retiring after 20 years with the college.
Joseph P. Manory most recently worked as chief financial officer for the Savannah College of Art and Design in Georgia.
He will move to the north country next month and take the reins March 31.
Ms. Mullaney has been a fixture at the college since 1994, but the time has come for her to retire, she said.
I worked at GE for 20 years, and St. Lawrence for 20 years, and now I hope to have at least 20 years for myself, she said.
Before coming to St. Lawrence University, Ms. Mullaney was a financial director for General Electrics aerospace division, which was sold to Martin Marietta Corp. the year before she took the job at the college.
Ms. Mullaney and her husband, Brian T., plan to remain in the north country. They have a home in Hannawa Falls.
We love the north country, Ms. Mullaney said.
She said she plans to remain active in the community, remaining on the boards of directors for Canton-Potsdam Hospital and the Canton Day Care Center.
She will help her successor learn the ropes of the job before she leaves, she said.
The whole environment for higher education is so competitive that hell just need to keep our costs contained as much as possible while still delivering the education that our students want, she said. We have a great staff here that will bring him through everything.
Mr. Manory was selected after a lengthy national search. Before his time in Georgia, he was the chief financial officer at Deerfield Academy in Massachusetts from 2007 to 2011 and treasurer at Quest Diagnostics Inc. in New Jersey from 2000 to 2007.
Ms. Mullaney said she enjoyed her time at the college, and will still be around to answer questions if they arise.
I love my job. This is the best job on the face of the earth. Im just taking the next step, taking the next stage in my life, she said.
