COPENHAGEN- Barbara J. Parker of PO Box 294 Copenhagen, NY passed away at home on Tuesday February 25, 2014 under the care of her family and Hospice of Lewis County.
Barbara was born in Watertown, New York on March 20, 1939 to Thomas E. and Myrtle L. Parker. She graduated in 1957 from Copenhagen Central School. She married Lewis R. Alexander on September 14, 1957. That marriage ended in divorce.
Surviving Barbara are two sons, Steven L. Alexander, Parrish Florida; and Scott L. Alexander, Copenhagen, NY. She is also survived by six grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and three step- great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Gary and his wife Gale Parker, Copenhagen, NY, and a sister Sally A. Gould, Rutland, NY.
She is predeceased by her brother Thomas E. Parker, Jr. and a sister Janet Sue Goldthrite.
Barbara was a member of the Copenhagen Ladies Auxiliary from 1960 to 1978 now an honorary member. She was an avid bowler for the auxiliary team for twenty years. She loved gardening, knitting, crafts, country music and spending summers at her cottage on Lake Ontario.
Barbara retired in 2001 as clerk-treasurer of the Village of Copenhagen after seventeen years of service.
She was a member of the North Country Clerks and Treasurers Association; Municipal Finance Officers Association; and the N.Y.S Association of City & Village Clerks.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday February 27, 2014 at the Lundy Funeral Home located at 10144 Washington Street in Copenhagen, NY from 4-7pm. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday February 28, at 2:00pm with the Pastor, George Gray, officiating at the River of Life Church located at 2140 Doran Rd, Copenhagen, NY 13626. Burial will be held in the Riverside Cemetery in the spring.
