CANTON The Morley Library recently received a grant from the Canton Community Fund to purchase a smart TV, a Blu-Ray player and other media equipment.
One of the goals listed in the long-range plan developed by the Morley Library Association in 2012 was promoting the library as a community center.
To meet this objective, the association determined it should look to acquire technological equipment, which would enable it to provide more programs of all kinds for both children and adults at the library.
Faced with limited funds for such equipment, the Morley Library Association turned to the directors of the Canton Community Fund for help, applying for a grant from that group that was approved in December.
Plans are underway for use of the equipment for all types of programs, with movies and special programs for children in particular a priority. Some of the many programs available over the Internet as well as movies and other programs on DVDs will enhance the librarys Summer Reading Program as well as other events geared to youngsters.
The association hosts special programs such as a babysitter class, local author presentations, slide shows of historic photos gathered by the Morley History Group and many programs on DVDs or the Internet.
