Sex offender jailed for alleged failure to register Hermon address

GOUVERNEUR — St. Lawrence County sheriff’s deputies on Monday charged Barry L. Stone, 43, of 547 Jonesville Road, Hermon, with felony failure to register with the state sex offender registry.

Deputies allege that Mr. Stone registered with the state registry on Feb. 12 as having an address of 183 Grove St., Apt. 2, Gouverneur, when he has been residing at the Jonesville Road address.

According to the state registry, Mr. Stone, a Level 3 sex offender, is a predicate sex offender who was convicted on Dec. 1, 2000 for the third-degree rape of a 16-year-old girl.

He was arraigned in Gouverneur Town Court and sent to St. Lawrence County jail, Canton, where he is being held without bail pending further proceedings.
