West Carthage - Barbara A. Grover, 71, of 36 Liberty St., died Sunday, March 2, 2014, in the Carthage Area Hospital where she has been a patient for four days.
Barb was born in Carthage on February 9, 1943, the daughter of the late Roy Peter and Rita A. Legary Vandewater. She was a 1960 graduate of Carthage Central School. She married Ronald J. Grover on August 25, 1962 at St. James Church in Carthage. Barb worked at Vans Coffee Shop, W.T. Grants, Johnnies Inn, cooked at Camp Mohawk and was a monitor and an in school suspension teachers aide at the Carthage Middle School for eleven years, retiring due to health in 1995. She later was a clerk at the Carthage Market.
She was an avid bowler, bowling in several womens bowling leagues and was a member of the Carthage Area Hospital Auxiliary and St. James Catholic Church.
She is survived by her husband, Ronald J. Grover of West Carthage, one daughter: Lisa A. Grover of Calcium, one son: Michael J. Grover and his fiancÚ Kim Sevier of Livermore, CA, a daughter-in-law, Stephanie Grover of Liverpool, three Grandchildren, one niece and two nephews. She is predeceased by her son Danny J. Grover who died on October 18, 2012 and a brother, Thomas Vandewater who died on October 18, 2009.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 1: 30 pm at St. James Catholic Church with the Rev. Geroge F. Maroun, Pastor officiating. Spring burial will be in St. James Cemetery. Calling hours at the Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home will be on Tuesday from 4-7pm.
