Not all victims of criminal acts obtain justice

The recent article appearing in the Times about victims of crime getting a day in court as to how the perpetrators’ crime has affected them perplexed me.

Although my daughter was asked for her input, when it came down to it, it was just lip service.

She was not kept informed of the proceedings against her attacker, nor was the extent of her injuries made known to the court.

There was no attempt by the court to make the defendant responsible for the damages she caused in my daughter’s own home.

The door she kicked in, objects she broke, phone she took and the carpet were ruined.

This brutal attacker received a mere slap on the hand, while my daughter’s children are not going to easily forget the look of their mother’s bruised, swollen face.

This violent person gets to carry on like nothing has happened.

There’s still blood on the carpet.

No justice for the victim here.
