One woman was flown to Syracuse and two others were treated at Samaritan Medical Center after a car and a pickup truck collided on Route 37 near the intersection of Keyser Road in the town of LeRay shortly before 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Pamelia Fire Department Capt. Tim Mateer said two women were trapped inside the crushed white Ford Taurus and it required a hydraulic rescue tool to extricate them from the vehicle. The driver was flown via LifeNet helicopter to Upstate Medical University, Syracuse. The passenger was taken by ambulance to Samaritan.

When Evans Mills Police Chief Steven C. Wood responded to the scene, he saw the pickup truck on a snowbank and the sedan in the middle of the road, both with significant damage. He said a man, woman and child were inside the truck. The woman was taken by ambulance to Samaritan with minor injuries.

The conditions of the two in the Taurus were not available Wednesday night.

A dog inside that car was “severely injured,” according to the Jefferson County Dog Control.

Ambulance squads from Evans Mills, Guilfoyle and Fort Drum responded to the scene. Mr. Wood said Evans Mills police were first on the scene, followed by state police and the Pamelia Fire Department.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
