LOWVILLE Companies interested in building Lewis Countys new tourism and recreation website have until the end of March to submit their proposals to county officials.
The project, a joint effort with the Lewis County Chamber of Commerce, the countys recreational trails coordinator, Jacqueline L. Mahoney, and the Department of Economic Development, will take our current Adirondacks-Tug Hill brand to the next level, drawing more people to the county to appreciate and experience all aspects of what we have to offer, according the the request for proposals.
Prospective contractors will meet these goals with the creation of a new county tourism and chamber website, drawing more visitors to the site and to the county.
Additionally, two apps will be developed in conjunction with Mohawk Valley GIS.
The first app will be a downloadable version of the countys all-terrain vehicle trail map. The second will be the snowmobile trail map.
The new website will be easier to visit with more in-depth information because its going to be multi-layered,, said Anne L. Merrill, executive director of the Lewis County Chamber of Commerce.
The chamber is compiling information from Lewis County businesses for inclusion.
Questionnaires went out to our members, but all businesses will be included, Mrs. Merrill said.
Business owners should call the chamber at 376-2213 to be listed on the website.
We can take all of their information right over the phone, Mrs. Merrill said.
When legislators in December approved $45,000 to be appropriated for the completed project, Frank J. Pace, senior planner with Lewis County Department of Economic Development and Planning, said the apps would increase safety for operators on both trails.
Both apps will be usable without cell service, as they can be accessible via satellite.
Many areas on Tug Hill have limited cell coverage, Mr. Pace said.
According to the request, the total allowed budget for all components of the project, including production and media costs, is $25,000. The budget is subject to change with legislative or executive action.
