MALONE After an influx of donations from more than 185 people both online and in the mail, it looks like the Hogeboon family is headed to Walt Disney World.
Heather Hogeboons childhood friend Christine Porter managed to raise more than $8,800 in less than three days so Ms. Hogeboon could make some final memories with her three sons. She is facing her third bout with cancer, and this time the odds dont look good. But with Ms. Porters help, she at least can look forward to this.
I am in awe, said Ms. Hogeboon, Malone. From the bottom of my heart and soul, and for my sons, I cannot express with words alone how the outpouring of support has touched me.
People turned out from every part of Ms. Hogeboons life to support her. Friends and family; former students from the Malone school district, where she worked; complete strangers. Some of the most special contributions for her came from old classmates, people she hasnt spoken to in almost 25 years.
Former schoolmate Scott Boyer led the charge for the Franklin Academy class of 1989. Ms. Hogeboon estimated at least $2,000 came from old classmates, and at least 60 to 70 percent of the class donated.
She said her son Denver has begged to go to Disney World, but after eight years of battling breast cancer, her financial situation never allowed for it.
The GoFundMe website where most of the money was raised has been flooded with well-wishes from donors telling the Hogeboon family to have a magical time at Disney.
Last month Ms. Hogeboon received a shocking third cancer diagnosis after an eight-year battle she thought shed won. The cancer shed been fighting off since 2006 had metastasized, spreading into her abdomen.
