CARTHAGE – David J. Halko, 55, of Old State Road, passed away on Wednesday morning, March 5, 2014, Upstate Medical University Hospital, Syracuse. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 9, 2014 at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., 5702 Waters Road, Lowville with Wayne Arnold, David’s best friend, of Grace Episcopal Church, Carthage and Rev. Bruce Lyndaker, Pastor of Emmaus Bible Fellowship, Lowville, officiating. There will be no calling hours. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. A gathering will immediately follow the funeral service at the Carthage Elks Lodge. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Friends of Lewis County Hospice, P.O. Box 266, Lowville, NY 13367 or any Lewis County Relay for Life Team.

He is survived by a son, Joshua Halko and his spouse, Justin Hall of Beaver Falls; a daughter and her fiancÚ, Janelle Halko and Chris Cazinha; his siblings, Daryl and Penny Halko of Croghan, Dennis and Ginger Halko of Croghan, Carrie and Stanley Zehr of Castorland, Darin and Jennifer Halko of Carthage; his father and mother-in-law, John and Agnes Teal of Brantingham; brothers and sisters-in-law, Mary and Wayne Ernst; Jackie and Bob Aden; Margaret “Podgie” Gorczyca all of Lyons Falls; Nancy and Keith Mooney of Port Leyden; Michael and Kim Teal of Brantingham; Terry and Bill Kohl of Port Leyden; Joseph and Robin Teal of Glenfield; special foster children, Justin, Jeffrey, and Jeremy Spoor; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. David is predeceased by his parents, and by his wife, Jenny Lou.

David was born on November 1, 1958 in Carthage, NY, a son of the late Donald L. and Joyce Marie Walsemann Halko. He graduated from Carthage Central School in 1977. He went to work for AMF in Lowville after graduating, and was the Kiln Supervisor there for many years until his recent promotion to Rough Mill Supervisor. He was first married to Annette Yancey, that ended years later. He married Genevieve Lucinda “Jenny Lou” Teal on October 11, 1991, at their home. Together with his wife, the couple were foster parents for several children. Jenny Lou died on October 17, 2012.

David was a member of B.P.O.E. #1762, Carthage Elks Lodge, where he was an active member for fundraising events and cooked for various dinner functions.

David enjoyed cooking, camping, boating, fishing, woodworking, gardening, maple sugaring and NASCAR. He loved life, making people laugh and taking care of people. David was an amazing father, big brother, great friend, cherished and loved by all.
