LOWVILLE A longtime dairy analyst and writer from Wisconsin will bring a positive message to dairy farmers during a session here this week.
Peter L. Hardin, editor and publisher of the national monthly dairy newspaper The Milkweed, projects 2014 as one of the best years ever for milk prices and appreciation of dairy livestock values, he said in a release.
I am optimistic that these dairy commodity values and resulting milk prices in early 2014 are for real based upon overall strong supply/demand, he said.
Mr. Hardin will give a dairy update at 8 p.m. Thursday at the Ridgeview Inn on Route 12. The speech will detail why theres plenty of room for optimism for farm milk prices and profits for the next couple years, the release said.
Factors driving tight U.S. supply include strong export demand, slowing milk production in the upper Midwest, high cull cow prices and the anticipated impact of Californias serious drought on that states crops and milk flow, the release said.
The event will not be rescheduled due to inclement weather. If weather is questionable, updates will be available at www.themilkweed.com.
