Lowville hospital extending sprinkler system to lobby

LOWVILLE — Lewis County General Hospital is extending its fire sprinkler system into the main lobby area.

The project, mandated by the state Health Department, is to commence with removal of asbestos from ceiling areas, according to an informational sheet on the project provided by the hospital.

“The required work has been planned and organized to be executed to the largest extent possible on weekends and during night-time hours,” the release said.

The main lobby entrance is to remain open through work on the project over at least the next couple of weekends, but access to the elevators from the lobby side will be interrupted during the second phase.

Following asbestos abatement, installation of the new system — along with new suspended ceilings, illumination equipment, wall finishes and decorations — is expected to take about 30 days, according to hospital officials.
