Following a motor vehicle accident on Route 283 in the town of Pamelia, a Fort Drum woman was charged with driving while intoxicated and multiple traffic infractions.
According to Jefferson County sheriffs deputies, Amber N. Nix, 26, of 9116 General Pike Loop, Apt. C, Fort Drum, was driving a 2006 Ford north on Route 283 shortly after 2 a.m. March 5. Ms. Nix had consumed four mixed drinks in Watertown and was heading home after dropping off several friends, deputies said. Ms. Nix stated that she became distracted from using her cell phone, exited the roadway and struck a utility pole, according to deputies.
After striking the pole, deputies said, Ms. Nix took a cab home, leaving the vehicle at the scene. Ms. Nix allegedly admitted to military police that she had been operating the vehicle at the time of the accident, at which time sheriff deputies responded to speak with her.
She was charged at 2:50 a.m. with DWI, unlicensed operator, operating a motor vehicle while using a mobile telephone, driving across a hazard marking and leaving the scene of a property damage accident.
According to sheriffs deputies, her blood alcohol content was 0.13 percent. A BAC of 0.08 percent or higher constitutes proof of intoxication under state law.
She was transported to the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building and issued tickets to Pamelia Town Court.
