Ogdensburg woman charged with welfare fraud

OGDENSBURG — St. Lawrence County sheriff’s deputies on Monday charged Brittany L. House, 28, of 498 McCormick Road, with two counts of third-degree welfare fraud, a class D felony, and first-degree offering a false instrument for filing, a class E felony.

Following an investigation by the County Department of Social Services Investigation Unit, deputies allege that between Oct. 3, 2011, and Sept. 30, 2012, Ms. House submitted fraudulent weekly day care reimbursement statements and a fraudulent periodic report for food stamps to DSS, resulting in her receiving $17,766.26 in benefits to which she was not entitled.

Ms. House was arraigned in Canton Town Court and released under probation supervision.
