James R. Johnston, age 79, of New Smyrna Beach, Florida and Clayton, New York, died of cancer on March 6, 2014.
Jim was born August 12, 1934 in Utica, New York. He married his college sweetheart, Marlene LaLonde in 1956 and they resided in Rochester, New York where he worked for 30 years as an engineer for Eastman Kodak. Together they raised three children, Michael (Teresa) Johnston of Rochester, Jackie Johnston of London, England and Mimi (Greg) Topping of Rochester. He is survived by his beloved wife, Marlene; his children; 4 grandchildren, Matthew and Alanna Johnston, and Christopher and Emily Topping; and 1 brother, Robert Johnston of Connecticut. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Marion Johnston of Utica, New York.
Jim had many interests and talents, such as fishing, hunting, woodworking and construction projects. He was a member of St. Marys Catholic Church, Clayton.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held a Sacred Heart Church, 998 Father Donlon Drive, New Smyrna Beach, Florida on Saturday, March 15, at 11:00 a.m.
