Snolf 2014 raises $3,721 for SPCA

The 11th annual Snow Golf, or “Snolf,” tournament benefiting the St. Lawrence Valley Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals raked in $3,721.

Organizer and SPCA board member Jennifer Stevenson said the event, which was held on Feb. 23, saw unseasonably good weather.

“The weather was sunny and warm, but windy,” she said.

Ms. Stevenson said in years past they’ve played in all weather conditions including mud, rain and blizzards.

This year’s weather “made it fun,” Ms. Stevenson said. “You’re always expecting challenging conditions. This was probably one of our least challenging years.”

Four-person teams played on a nine-hole, par-three golf course set up in Father Martin’s Field on Hasbrouck Street behind the Knights of Columbus Hall.

Players use colored balls so they don’t lose them in the snow.

Ms. Stevenson said they saw about 45 golfers turn up with nearly as many onlookers.

With the weather as nice as it was, Ms. Stevenson said DJ Ken Chase was able to set up speakers outside to keep people in a party mood.

The SPCA is an organization that provides care for animals in need.
