World must demonstrate force against Putin

Czechoslovakia was a country that existed next to another huge military power much like the Ukraine does today. It, too, was invaded to “protect” an ethnic population of German origin.

Great Britain let this happen. As we know, Chamberlain brought “peace in our time” by not stopping Hitler. Tens of millions later died in World War II.

Now for the second time in recent history, Russia again has invaded a neighboring country to “protect Ukrainian citizens” who have Russian ethnic roots. No one in the world is calling attention to the parallel to World War II and Czechoslovakia.

Will Putin be satisfied if the world lets him forcibly take Crimea as yet another “Russian ally” by, in reality, annexing it into Russia as he did in Georgia? What will he do if the rest of Ukraine tried to fight them to keep what is their sovereign lands?

It seems Russian troops would not let any Ukrainian troops make them leave.

The bigger question is what does the world do about Putin’s need to show his power? Is this merely a prelude to further annexations or worse? Do we again do the same as we did in Georgia and let him have the Crimea and even the rest of Ukraine?

Prior to World War II, isolationists were many who said to stay out of Europe and let the war between Hitler and the rest of Europe happen without our involvement. History shows us that such dictators will not stop with these simple incursions.

We must draw the line here and threaten Putin with the full military retaliation of the western world unless he leaves Ukraine.

It is time we drew a line for freedom. If we value our freedom, we must have the courage to do this. If we do not, we open the door not only to Russia but China also to “expand their country.”
