GREAT BEND Due to snow, the Carthage Central School Great Bend forum to discuss if the district should pay for necessary repairs to the building or remove it from the district has been rescheduled for Wednesday.
The public forum will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. in the gymnasium of the building, 25059 Woolworth St.
The building will be open for self-guided tours at 5:30 p.m.
The main topic of the forum will be the future use of the building within the districts operations.
Other topics may be discussed afterward.
Currently, the building is used on a year-round basis as a district office and for the districts alternative education program.
The building, built in 1950, contains asbestos and an aging boiler. The estimated cost to replace the boiler is $350,000. The cost for asbestos abatement is estimated at $240,000. Other maintenance issues may also factor into costs.
Since the building does not qualify for state building aid, any cost for repairs would be put to taxpayers.
