Chaumont man charged with aggravated DWI

CHAUMONT — Michael J. Carney, 44, of 22 Circle Drive, was arrested by Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies Friday night after they said he was allegedly driving while intoxicated with a loaded .22 rifle on the front seat of his car.

Deputies stopped Mr. Carney at around 8:30, and allegedly discovered that he was intoxicated and found the gun.

His blood alcohol content was not available. Under state law, a BAC of 0.08 percent or higher constitutes proof of intoxication. Aggravated DWI is charged when the BAC is 0.18 percent or higher.

He was arrested at 9:27 p.m. and charged with aggravated DWI, prohibited use of a firearm, crossing road hazard markings and failure to keep right. He will appear in Lyme Town Court.
