Lenney, Pirro homer to power Clarkson to a split

EAGLE LAKE, Fla. — Dan Lenney and Dom Pirro each homered as the Clarkson baseball team took game one of a nonconference doubleheader, 7-1, and earned an eventual split with SUNY Brockport on Sunday.

Pirro clubbed a solo shot in the fourth and Lenney belted a two-run homer in the sixth for the Golden Knights (2-3). Eddie Miller tossed a complete game and gave up only one run for the win. Greg Jasek hit a two-run home run for Clarkson in game two.

Dan Hurlimann hit a game-ending home run in the seventh to help the Golden Eagles (5-2) win game two, 6-5.

n A four-run ninth inning helped Huntington (Ind.) win a 14-13 slugfest over SUNY Canton in Auburndale, Fla. Shea Beauchamp collected four hits for the Foresters. Nick Belile paced the Kangaroos (6-5) with four hits and four RBIs.

n Sophomore left-hander Eury Villaluna tossed a complete-game shutout in the opener as Jefferson Community College beat host Hagerstown CC 4-0 in the opening game of a doubleheader. Villalona allowed six hits, struck out three and didn’t walk a batter. Elliott Martin went 3-for-3, Calder Roggie was 2-for-4 and Shavict Lora finished 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs for JCC.

The Cannoneers (4-5) lost the second game 10-8. Jason Hardie was 4-for-4 with a double and an inside-the-park home run. Lora went 3-for-4, while Emerson Gross and T. J. Montalbano each had two hits.
