State police are investigating an early-morning crash that killed an Antwerp man, who died after his vehicle struck two horses that were in the road on County Route 20 in the town of Philadelphia on Monday.
Jacob T. Tyler, 35, was on his way to work about 4:30 a.m. when his Volkswagen Jetta hit the two horses, which had gotten loose from a nearby farm, state troopers said.
Mr. Tyler suffered severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The two horses also died.
The car ended up in a snowbank on the west shoulder of the road, which was closed for several hours, troopers said.
