Leon James Desormo Sr., son of the late James and Maybelle Desormo, was called home peacefully on Friday, March 14, 2014 while a resident of Hospice of Jefferson County. He was a good provider, loving, understanding father and grandfather who survived two open heart surgeries and two different cancers. He was known as “Papa” to all. He attended schools at Adams Center, Watertown and Copenhagen and graduated from the Toledo (Ohio) Meat Cutting School. He served in the Marine Corps from 1943 to 1946 during World War II. He and his business partner, Byron Tibbles, ran T & D Ash Services for 10 years and he was also employed by Black Clawson and New York Air Brake Co, both of Watertown. He was a self-employed handyman before he retired and was a member of Watertown Assembly of God Church for several years.

Leon is predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Marjorie Stone Desormo and his oldest son, Leon Jr. He is survived by his daughter Marsha of Florida and Watkins Glen, NY, son Arthur (Trudy) of Watertownž NY and son Christopher (Trish) of Georgia, several grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers Charles, Paul, Richard and David and his sister Pauline.

A memorial service will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family. The family requests any donations to be made to Hospice of Jefferson County, 1398 Gotham St., Watertown, NY 13601. Online condolences may be made at reedbenoit.com
