Potsdam teen jailed for violating probation

PROBATION VIOLATION - MASSENA - Village police picked up Brendan T. Stevenson, 19, of 6541 state Route 56, Apt. 4, Potsdam, was picked up on a warrant for allegedly violating his probationary sentence. Stevenson was picked up by Potsdam Village Police and turned over to Massena Village Police.

Stevenson had been placed on probation after being adjudicated as a youthful offender. A bench warrant for Stevenson’s arrest has been signed March 4 by Massena Village Justice Eric J. Gustafson.

The probation department had filed its initial violation of probation with the Massena Village Court in July 2013. Since being placed on probation, Stevenson allegedly failed to report to his probation officer as directed, continued to test positive for smoking marijuana and was discharged from a treatment program for non-compliance with the attendance policy.

Stevenson was arraigned by Massena Town Justice Gerald P. Sharlow and sent to the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility with bail set at $1,000 cash.

Stevenson had been charged with petit larceny Feb. 21, 2012 following a shoplifting incident. He left the Massena Price Chopper without paying for a package of Skittles, valued at $2.19.
