Sexton signs with Bruins


POTSDAM - Ben Sexton signed a three-year entry level contract with the Boston Bruins on Thrsday.

Sexton will report immediately to the Providence Bruins in the American Hockey League.

A 22-year-old forward from Kanata, Ont., Sexton was a seventh round draft pick by Boston in 2009.

A 6-0, 200 pound forward, Sexton skated in 102 games over the past four years with the Golden Knights recording 85 points on 24 goals and 61 assists. He was the Green and Gold’s leading playmaker this season with 22 assists and second in points with 28. He also scored six goals, including four power-play markers and one game-winner in 35 games.

Sexton served as Clarkson’s captain the past two seasons, and was an assistant captain as a sophomore. He was honored with Clarkson’s Mike Morrison Dedication award and the Clarkson Ironman award in 2013.

With Sexton as their leader, the Knights posted a 21-17-4 overall record and advanced in the ECAC Hockey playoffs for the first time since the 2006-07 campaign. He tallied five points in six playoff games. Clarkson’s season came to a close last Sunday with a 1-0 overtime loss at Cornell in Game 3 of the ECAC Hockey quarterfinal series.
