Water quality award renamed in honor of late Lewis planner

LOWVILLE — Lewis County’s annual water quality award has been renamed in honor of a late county senior planner who was heavily involved in water protection.

This year’s Water Quality Stewardship Award was posthumously presented to the family of Renee J. Beyer at the annual meeting of the Lewis County Soil and Water Conservation District and the Lewis County Water Quality Coordinating Committee, then it was immediately renamed in her memory.

Mrs. Beyer died of injuries suffered in a two-vehicle crash in April in the town of Harrisburg.

She had served on the Water Quality Coordinating Committee since it was re-established in 2007, including a time as secretary, and participated in macro-invertebrate collection to assess stream health at Sears Pond in Montague, helping with the educational portion of the annual RiverFest paddling event and assisting in acquiring grants.
